Recently my partner and I travelled to Port Douglas in Queensland for the second time and after the initial experience I decided to purchase a DSLR camera to take some photos of our trip.

Not only did I enjoy the trip but I also enjoyed taking photos along the way. So much so that I am hoping to continue with some amateur photography and learn more about the camera and taking photos. After plenty of research, I settled on Nikon’s entry level D3300 with a 18-55mm lens.

It was a special trip for a number of reasons, but mainly due to the fact that we got engaged. To celebrate, toward the end of the trip we organised to go on a sunset cruise on the beautiful Aquarius 62ft cruise boat out over the Low Isles of the Great Barrier Reef.

It was extremely relaxing, downing a few alcoholic beverages as well sailed slowly out of the port. As we left, the clouds started to gather but luckily enough, the rain stayed away and I snapped a scenic photo of the sun struggling to break through the clouds over the deep blue water.

As a beginner, I was pretty happy with how it turned out and was not only a good start to my journey as an amateur photographer but it will also preserve the memories of a special time in my life.
